Cougar Town & Community In Danger Of Cancellation

I didn’t want to take out the angry koala again.

It’s come to my attention that the powers that be at NBC (it rhymes, it must be correct) haven’t even GLANCED at my buddha board and have instead decided to crap from on high two times in one week with the announcement that Community will be put on hiatus in the very near future, while Cougar Town is to be delayed in its mid-season return (and with fewer episodes).

Though very different shows, they have two things in common – obsessive fan bases and inventive, character-based humour. This, of course, is a recipe for cancellation.

If you feel as I do, I urge you all to get a-tweeting about it and sign this twitition (why yes, that is the stupidest word I’ve written all day). If you don’t, two sample clips below should hopefully turn you from a person who doesn’t care at all to a person who laughed internally because laughing out loud isn’t something you do when watching videos on your own.

For the uninitiated, Community follows a ragtag bunch of often selfish, ethnically charged community college students as they overcome obstacles like paintball wars, evil parallel universes and the perils of Dungeons & Dragons roleplay.

Cougar Town, its less-loved but equally warm and inviting counterpart is about a single woman in her 40s who’s just trying to blah blah blah I don’t care – it’s basically Courteney Cox, Christa Miller and Busy Phillips bouncing the fuck off each other while pounding grape. And it’s hilarious.

These are the best examples of the littlest-shows-that-could on any network over the past few years, and in a weirdly prescient move they started extensively referencing each other to the point of appearing in each other’s show. If you love them as much as I do, please make your feelings known. If not, just watch them, have fun, and drink wine out of a giant glass.
