100-Word Review: “The Innkeepers”

Director Ti West continues his string of low-budget, offbeat horrors with this snappy if under-stuffed piece about a supposedly haunted hotel on its last weekend of business. As the skeleton staff getting their ghost hunt on, Sara Paxton (of Shark Night 3-D infamy) and Pat Healy make a charming pair, but patience is pushed to the limit as false scares and vague motivations take up much of the running time. By the time the vengeful scorned bride Madeleine O Malley (chicks, am I right?) finally gets involved the results are unsettling but swift. An exercise in tension that lacks release.
