100-Word Review: Prometheus

As a not-prequel prequel to Alien, Prometheus often works. As a blockbusting space horror, Prometheus often works. But in countless ways, Prometheus never gels. The tale of a group of foolhardy scientists and company men searching for the origins of man, its muted first act calls to mind the first Alien, its second the sequel’s high-octane action, while the final act feels stapled together from  Ridley Scott’s misfiring synapses over the past thirty years. It never quite works, while lead Noomi Rapace takes the foolhardiest scientist ever and somehow makes her even less sympathetic. No Alien. No Event Horizon.
